Box gallery curated by Elaine Luther, Chicago, U.S.
Named for the 18th century Swiss painter; showing art and fine craft. I started with one 12″ x 12″ box and now have two dollhouses, five box galleries, one wine crate loft and an outdoor gallery. In addition to living online, the galleries have traveled to be on display in libraries, a creative reuse store and an artists’ street level studio window. The outdoor version of the gallery was in the Terrain Biennial in the Chicago area in 2021, with three changes of shows during Terrain. In between exhibits, I show the hidden labor of set up, take down and cleaning.Chicago, U.S.
I put on serious shows of seriously small art. For our first year we mainly held group shows, now we primarily host solo shows. Once a quarter we host a show of work by someone who is currently or formerly incarcerated. I occasionally show my own art, but mostly show the work of others. I’ve shown film stills, quilts, collage, dry point prints, woven work, photography, drawing, oil paintings in bottle caps and matchboxes, collages on bread tabs, textile collage, paintings, mosaics, and sculpture. I’ve shown work from artists in the U.K., Canada and from across the U.S.
